I Didn’t Realize How Dry My Lips Were Until I Tried Summer Fridays’ New Butter Balm

Image
Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Renee Rodriguez Out of all of the beauty products I use on a daily basis, there is one beauty product I can't live without: lip balm . I carry a tube with me everywhere, without fail. I keep one in my car, in my coat pockets, and most recently, at my desk while I work from home. Because I use lip balm so frequently, I've tried out quite a few different brands. I'm always searching for the one product that will leave my lips feeling hydrated without having to constantly reapply. So far, the search has turned up fruitless - until now, thanks to the new Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm ($22). When I first heard about the product, I knew I had to buy it immediately (and I did - I clicked "add to cart" the very day it launched). I'm already a huge fan of the clean beauty brand's Jet Lag Mask , an ultra hydrating face mask that leaves your skin silky smooth, so I was hoping this new balm would be like Jet Lag Mask for lip

Why My 10+ Year Love Affair With Self Tanner Hasn't Stopped While Social-Distancing

Image
Like many of you reading this right now, I've been social distancing for three weeks and counting. I've been outside four times in the past week, and, in that time, I haven't spoken to anyone else face-to-face, in the flesh, but my partner. So why would I bother going to the effort of self-tanning while social-distancing? There are a few reasons, but the main one being, because I f*cking can. I've been a self-tan devotee since I was about 14 years old. In my teens, I was a competitive Irish dancer, which meant spray tans and slapping on Fake Bake Flawless Darker Liquid was a regular part of my routine. Faux tan was my uniform (no, seriously, it was a competing essential), and while the product takes up a much smaller portion of my schedule now, it's still very much a part of my life (thankfully, I use a lot less of the stuff now), whether I'm social distancing or not. Here I am, declaring that: I, Tori Crowther, am still dedicating one evening a week to ex

Sergio Rossi CEO Riccardo Sciutto Calls the Design Legend his “Greatest Inspiration”

Image
“Now I have a double weight on my shoulders to do everything according to his DNA,” said Sergio Rossi CEO Riccardo Sciutto . He spoke exclusively to FN from Italy via Zoom following the news that shoe legend and namesake passed away last night from coronavirus. The two last spent time together over Christmas, the executive said, when they visited the Sergio Rossi archive that Sciutto has curated at the brand’s headquarters in Italian shoe district San Mauro Pascoli. “He was so amazed to see it all in one place. He said to me, ‘I can die here,'” Sciutto revealed. The CEO said that those words had been haunting him since he heard the news. Sciutto has kept the brand’s rich history — and extensive archives — in the spotlight since he took the helm in 2015 when Sergio Rossi was sold by previous owner Kering to Italian private equity firm Investindustrial.  Now he plans to continue the founder’s legacy. For one thing, the executive hopes to create a museum in San Mauro Pascoli de

Sergio Rossi’s Most Iconic Shoes: A Look Back

Image
Italy is rife with talented designers and shoemakers — but even among the best of the best, Sergio Rossi ’s legacy looms large. The designer, who died Thursday from coronavirus , was a major influence on the industry, having created some of the most directional and iconic footwear throughout the 20th century. Like many shoemakers of the day, Rossi learned the business from his father in the 1940s and 1950s, working alongside him in San Mauro Pascoli, a town in the Emilio-Romagna region of the country. After World War II, the small village became a shoemaking epicenter, known for handmade sandals that were sold along the Italian Riviera. In 1956, Rossi took over his father’s business and started to create his own handmade sandals. “I have always thought of myself as a calzuler , a cobbler, then I became a ‘creative manager.’ I was born among leather… Watching my father at work I stole his trade,” Rossi once said of his formative years. He launched his namesake brand in 1968. A pai

5 Beauty Habits I've Dropped Since Working From Home, and 5 Good Ones I've Picked Up

Image
Self-isolation isn't my first experience working from home ; I've done it on and off for the past several months. But whether or not you consider that a benefit, there's no denying this: you have a little more time and a lot fewer places to go each day. I was surprised to discover how much this changed my beauty routine . It's not that the lack of working in an office every day has made me lazy or the like, but really, I've just had more time to evaluate what I want to spend time and money on - and when. From adjusting the frequency of some of my routine beauty services to putting my product-hoarding tendencies to better use, I've learned a lot. So whether this is your first work-from-home experience or you're just looking for a little beauty routine refresh, I'm sharing five habits I've dropped and picked up since I went remote. 3 Easy Face Mask Recipes You Can Make At Home With Ingredients In Your Kitchen

Image
There's something so satisfying about mixing and making your own beauty remedies. From body scrubs and face masks to DIY lip scrubs, there's an added sense of accomplishment when you get to craft products using items you already have in your kitchen - not to mention, it's budget-friendly. You can use store-bought face masks to detox, brighten, and exfoliate, or you can use grocery items in your pantry to achieve the same skin goals. Mimi Luzon , a celebrity aesthetician who has worked with stars like Naomi Campbell , Kaia Gerber, and the Hadid sisters, swears by homemade face masks. "I currently do a different face mask every day," said Luzom. "Following Eastern skin-care practices, it's extremely beneficial for our skin to use a face mask with a different function every day; it could be firming, luminizing, moisturizing, or detoxifying. Of course, you can use any mask you have in the house every other day, or you can make your own treatments at ho

This Guy Transformed a Blanket Into 7 Runway-Worthy Outfits While Grabbing Snacks From the Fridge

Image
Ever since we've all started social distancing and staying at home, I (along with many others) have found myself heading over to the fridge or pantry to get a snack more than a few times a day. I've also found myself opting for sweatpants and cozy outfits rather than dressing up at this time. Conor McKenzie, a dancer based in both North Carolina and New York City, posted a video of himself on Instagram that was relatable in more ways than one. In the video, he walks over to the fridge to grab a snack while wearing a blanket as an outfit. Conor captioned the video, "me going to the fridge 87 times a day 💅🏼 CATEGORY IS: SELF ISOLATION SERVE 💅🏼 Y'all, I'm so proud. I made all of these looks using one blanket!" As the video continued, we saw Conor take the single blanket and turn it into seven impressive new looks while grabbing food from the fridge. Even Julianne Hough commented on the video, saying, "Obsessed with you - make all my dresses thank yo

The Designers Have a 7-Hour Challenge For Week 4 of Making the Cut, and Things Get Wild

Image
Episode four of Making the Cut is here, and we finally get those cliffhanger results from the previous challenge. The judges were deciding if they should keep Troy Hul Arnold or not after his teammate, Joshua Hupper, took himself out of the competition. The critique was that the fabrics and colors totally clashed in this duo's designs. The verdict is that the judges want to get to know Arnold more, so he is saved. Tim Gunn then gathers the contestants to warn them that they need to fight hard. For this week's challenge, the designers must create looks with fabrics used in past episodes, and they only have seven hours to make them. That means that each person's sewing skills will be put to the test unlike ever before. For this fast-paced challenge, Tim Gunn is only doing quick check-ins for each designer, since there's not much time to drastically change any looks. Gunn is thrilled with all of the promise in the room, but there is definitely a lot of stress as every

Amazon Just Dropped 2 More Episodes of Making the Cut, and This Week Is Full of Twists

Image
In episode three of Making the Cut , the designers are pairing up for collaborations! Each duo must create three looks, melding their two aesthetics together. At first, everyone is excited to work with one another, but they all quickly discover that teamwork isn't as easy as it seems. Sabato Russo has a hard time cutting out patterns, so his partner Sanders Bos takes the lead on their looks. Meanwhile, Tim Gunn pushes last week's winner, Esther Perbandt, and her partner Will Riddle, to take more risks. Gunn is also concerned with the Frankenstein-like looks by Ji Won Choi and Rinat Brodach. As soon as Gunn heads over to the work tables of Megan Smith and Jonny Cota, he immediately observes that the designs are fully Smith's point of view. The duo's collaboration definitely hits a bumpy point as they try to compromise and put more of Cota's vibe into the look. Then we get a peek at Troy Hul Arnold and Joshua Hupper's designs, which include questionable color

This Old Navy Fleece Jacket Is Perfect For Spring - Ahem, It's on Sale, Too!

Image
I see cozy fleece jackets everywhere I look. On some of my favorite fashionable influencers, on celebrities, and definitely all over my neighborhood. They're great to wear during transitional seasons because the weather can fluctuate so much on any given day. I've been looking for the perfect fleece jacket that I can wear unbuttoned when it's warm, and completely shut when it's breezy out, and I have definitely found it. To be fair, I saw a few celebrities wearing it so I can't take credit for the discovery, but nonetheless, I'm here to share the news about the Old Navy Sherpa Coat ($25-$50). It has a mock neck that makes it look extra sharp, and my favorite detail is the contrasting twill trim that runs along the collar, placket, sleeve cuffs, pockets, and hem. And in terms of warmth, the outer layer is sherpa with faux-suede lining. It's just so so dreamy, and I can't wait to wear it all Spring long with white denim, over floral dresses with a pair

After Seeing These Products at Old Navy, I'm Inspired to Create a Mini Spa Night at Home

Image
When it comes to creating before-bed routines, I'm the type of person who will shorten everything I possibly can in order to get to bed faster. Though I may want to take a long hot shower and do a face mask and tend to my under-eyes, I'm much more likely to make it a habit if it's easy to adopt and even easier to complete. After scrolling through Old Navy this morning and seeing its massive inventory of cozy items and beauty products, I'm completely inspired to create a bedtime routine that I know I can stick to. From a pillow spray that will put me in a calm mood , to under-eye masks I can pop on while I watch The Office in bed (for the 30th+ time) and even cute loungewear , here are nine ideas that can help you create a mini spa moment if you have the time! The Owner of a Beloved SF Boutique on the Realities Fashion Retail Is Facing Right Now

Image
If you think fashion is frivolous in the time of coronavirus, you probably don't depend on it for a living. My friend, the founder of San Francisco's Hero Shop , Emily Holt, does. She's a former Vogue editor who set up shop on the West Coast in 2016 after she spent years covering the fashion industry in New York, and Hero Shop has become a bright spot in our city's fashion landscape ever since. It's a gem, housing an expertly curated selection of contemporary and luxury labels, the likes of which you're more likely to find strolling around Soho than the streets of San Francisco. Fashion fans and shoppers like me have found her store to be a haven of sorts, and happily indulge in the designer trunk shows and events she offers regularly as a chance to engage with the style world that can, at times, feel so far from the Bay Area. As I watched the news of the pandemic and its effects as it spread across the country, it became clear that the fashion world would b

His Son Gianvito Rossi + More Designers Pay Tribute to Sergio Rossi Who Died Last Night From Coronavirus

Image
Following the death of footwear legend Sergio Rossi from coronavirus , his son, shoe designer Gianvito Rossi, paid this heartfelt tribute to his father into whose footsteps he followed. Rossi was born in  San Mauro Pascoli , one of Italy’s main shoemaking regions, in 1935.  He learned the trade from his own father, began producing footwear in the early 1950s and launched his namesake brand in 1968. As he grew his own label, the designer also collaborated with fashion houses such as Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Azzedine Alaïa. Rossi developed a number of groundbreaking styles such as the Opanca sandal with its curved sole. Gianvito Rossi “ Sergio Rossi died last night, not without fighting, at the age of 84. The Sammaurese entrepreneur had contracted the COVID-19, and had been hospitalized for days in the intensive care of the Bufalini hospital in Cesena. His is a story of unconditional love for shoes, which began in an Italy consumed by the Second World War, and learned fr

Jimmy Fallon Wore His Daughter's Sparkly Cat Ear Headband to Face Mask With Jessica Alba

Image
The world might be in lockdown, but that's not slowing Jimmy Fallon down. During The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (At Home Edition) , he's been busy getting haircut tips from Jonathan Van Ness , discussing social distancing with Kim Kardashian , and having a right laugh with Tina Fey . And his latest guest delivered equal amounts of entertainment and education. Jessica Alba took time out of her busy home life to teach Fallon a thing or two about face masks, as well as talk about how her business, The Honest Company, is helping families impacted by COVID-19. During this time, "it's a really important time to do self-care," Alba told Fallon, which is why she's demonstrating how she practices it. The first step in the at-home Alba facial is putting on a fun headband to keep hair well out of the way. Alba whips out her trusty white bunny ear headband, while Fallon stole his daughter's sparkly, gold cat ear headband for the occasion. Once prepped, t
