According to Purvi Parikh , an allergy and infectious disease specialist with New York University's Langone Medical Center, germs transferring from the hands to the mouth are "the easiest way you can contract any infection." It sounds alarming, but there a few very simple ways to keeping your nails clean and germ free. Read ahead for a few tips. Tip #1: Wash Under Your Nails The easiest thing you can do is to make sure that, while you spend more time washing your hands, you're also getting rid of the germs that may be hanging out under your nails. Soap and water will take care of this, but Sundays founder Amy Lin also recomme

View this post on Instagram from google hangouts, to facetime meetings, to zoom fittings.. to bugging my bf 😝 A post shared by Danielle Bernstein (@weworewhat) on Mar 17, 2020 at 10:52am PDT Dressing up for a Zoom meeting can be a bit tricky, especially if it's for work and not catching up with friends. Lucky for you, we've rounded up some ideas for both situations, and they're easier than you think. The one plus to meetings that are online and not in person is that you only have to dress up from the waist up. You can be business on the top and cozy on the bottom à la Mindy Kaling. She posted a relatable photo of herself while working from home wearing a sophisticated vest over a button-down shirt. Rather than styling her shirt with a pair of trousers, she opted for comfy pajama pants and fuzzy slides. Since nobody can see what you're wearing on the bottom, why not stay comfortable? If you don't really feel like getting dressed up and wan

6 Dermatologists and Skin Experts Explain Why Your Breakouts Are Out of Control Right Now

Image
Has your skin been breaking out like crazy or drier than usual since we all started self-isolating? Because mine certainly has. And after talking to other POPSUGAR editors and posting about it on Instagram, we've learned that a lot of people feel like their skin is freaking out right now. Much of it can be attributed to higher levels of stress and anxiety , sure, but we couldn't help wondering if there might be more to it. Turns out we were on to something. As dermatologist Shari Marchbein , MD, explained: "I do think a lot of it is stress, although many of us have altered sleep, work, life, and skin-care routines right now, so there's no way to pinpoint just one reason." Obviously, we can't generalize everyone's situation, because there are a million and one factors that go into why someone's skin might be flaring up or acting like a moody teenager. But it seems to be too much of a coincidence that almost everyone is having the same problem since

Tisdale starts off her routine with a little skin-care prep, moisturizing her skin with the Joanna Vargas Daily Serum ($85) - which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and promote skin elasticity - and the Joanna Vargas Rescue Serum ($150). 27 Skin-Care Products Our Editors Are Leaning On the Most This Month

Harley Quinn once described "normal" as nothing but a setting on your hair dryer, and, for all intents and purposes, she's not wrong. Yet, right now - in a time of so much fear and uncertainty spread across the globe - the desire to find some sense of normalcy while self-isolating is a feeling we all can appreciate. In some cases, and for many people, that can be as simple as doing your regular skin-care routine every day. It can also mean looking to your stash of skin-care products that spark joy or, if nothing else, serve as an act of escapism from the relentless news cycle. Whether that's with a soothing face wash that smells like lavender to lull you to sleep or a ridiculously bright sheet mask that scares everyone in your apartment , know this: now is the time to celebrate the treatments that make you feel more like . . . well, you . As for us? We're right there with you, so we've asked POPSUGAR editors to share the face masks , serums, cleansers

Kim Kardashian's Hairstylist Breaks Down How to Cut Men's Hair at Home

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Chris Appleton (@chrisappleton1) on Apr 9, 2020 at 5:43am PDT If recent events have shown us anything , it's that people are relying more and more on their family and partners to cut their hair . But for most of us, our experience in the haircutting department is fairly limited - aside from giving our ends a little trim or that one time we snipped our own bangs , that is. That's why a how-to for cutting men's hair was so highly requested from celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton . He shared the video on Instagram detailing the process from start to finish in under five minutes, making it look far easier than you might expect. The Modern-Day Mullet Is Staging a Comeback (Yes, You Read That Right)

Image
There's no delicate way to address this, so we're just going to come out with it: the mullet haircut is staging a comeback , and no, we're not kidding. Oh, wait, don't go! We have good news, and it's that this is not the same throwback look you might remember from the '90s (because that one firmly belongs in the Tiger King documentary or "Achy Breaky Heart" music video). "This haircut is for someone who is confident, who steps outside the box, and whose style is on the edgier side." No, the latest rendition of the faithfully divisive "business in the front, party in the back" style is much cooler and way more low-key. Celebrity hairstylist and cofounder of Nine Zero One salon Riawna Capri has dubbed it "the chillet" - a chill mullet. "It's a more modified and more fashion-forward version of the mullet ," she said, adding that you needn't commit to the full chop to reap its benefits. "The
