Versace Goes Sky-High For Spring 2022 With Platforms, Minis and Scarf Prints Galore

Image
For anyone looking for that great big comeback of in-real-life runway shows to resuscitate fashion, look no further than Versace for a full on defibrillation. The Italian fashion brand held its first in-person women’s runway event for its women’s collection since February 2020, and to mark the occasion creative director Donatella Versace spared no expense, packing it full of celebrity cameo runway appearances ( Dua Lipa, for starters ) and making the fashion as big and bold as possible (if it’s possible to make Versace any more over the top). The fashion itself was a party, too, and one with a distinctive ’90s-into-Y2K direction:  Underneath a giant silk canopy that resembled Versace’s signature baroque scarf motifs, models walked the runway showing off women’s and men’s looks done in the bright, slightly-futuristic pop color lens that undeniably defined the look of late ’90s fashion and music iconography. “Two years can go just like that. It’s really making time for things that matter. It’s treasuring every single moment you have.” As Jimmy Choo creative director Sandra Choi reflected on pandemic lessons at Milan Fashion Week — the label last held a women’s presentation here in February 2020, just days before the city became one of the earliest coronavirus hotspots — the designer was also looking ahead to spring ’22, a season that she believes will bring rebirth and renewal. In that spirit, Jimmy Choo’s nature-themed outing featured bold, colorful styles displayed on top of tranquil pools of water. “I remember sitting in my kitchen in the [English] countryside, when we were still fresh in the [pandemic] moment — and I saw my garden have this orchestra of colors and flowers and different movements coming in and going out,” sh e recalled. “It was never boring and it was so powerful. And it doesn’t matter whether it’s rain or shine as it happens. This kind of energy, it’s powerful — and
