Chanel Went ‘Legally Blonde’ Pink For Spring 2021 At Paris Fashion Week

Image
It was clear that Chanel’s spring ’21 show would have something to do with Hollywood and the movies. The day before the show, the brand released a teaser, filmed by photographer duo Inez & Vinoodh, showing a replica of the famous Hollywood sign done in “CHANEL,” along with a series of dramatic vignettes in which models-as-actresses performed recurring cinematic situations. Fast forward a day, and the Grand Palais was filled with those giant iconic letters done in white. Models walked out from them wearing a series of black, white and bubblegum pink looks, Chanel style. While it may not have been the explicit intent of Chanel creative director Virginie Viard, the collection looks primed for a “Legally Blonde” comeback. This Is The Jewelry Trend That Has Paris Fashion Week Buzzing

Image
For those of us attending fashion month virtually, things have been a bit less, well, exciting. Gone is the thrill of seeing the new garments, shoes and bags move in real time on the runway, and the up-close, tactile moments of craftsmanship that can only really be done at showroom appointments and re-sees. But one French fashion house has managed to create buzz with just a look book — and it’s doing so by paying homage to its own history. Schiaparelli spring ’21. Look Out Bottega Veneta — Is Givenchy The New ‘It’ Shoe Brand For Spring 2021?

Image
Since its new creative director Daniel Lee showed marshmallow-like quilted pumps on the runway in 2018, Bottega Veneta has been the brand when it comes to “It” shoes — with the sales and searches to prove it . Similarly, new creative director Matthew Williams just revealed a debut collection for Givenchy that is full of quirky, eye-catching footwear (and handbags). Do they have the potential to create a new season of “It” shoes in the luxury space? Williams’s debut spring ’21 collection for the French fashion house was not one of the IRL runway shows that have been occurring during Paris Fashion Week in recent days. Givenchy instead released only a simple look book shot on white background, comprised of 54 looks. There was just as much — if not more — to digest from the simple presentation. It was a whole new look for Givenchy, whose previous creative director Clare Waight Keller focused on tailoring for the grown-up woman. Instead, Williams infused the collection with some of the

Isabel Marant Turned Her Paris Fashion Week Runway Into an Outdoor Flash Disco For Spring 2021

Image
Human touch is one of the most-missed parts of life during the pandemic. Isabel Marant picked up on that primal need during her spring ’21 collection show at Paris Fashion Week, having her models turn the runway into a flash mob disco that included hugging, dancing and all of the things that people are not allowed to do right now in real life. Held outdoors at the Palais Royale, Marant’s spring ’21 show had much of the same design codes that the French designer is known for:  There were flirty minidresses, frilly accents, a sexy-chic silhouettes and the Western-esque boots and sneakers that have made her a household footwear name. A palette of pinks dotted the collection, a hue that other designers like Rick Owens have also used to convey a spirit of optimism for and hope for joy in 2021. Hispanic Heritage Month: How Peruvian Shoe Designer Flor de Maria Creates Affordable Luxury Heels Even Celebrities Love

Image
FN is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. Observed from September 15 to October 15, the occasion recognizes the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. FN invites you to follow along as we shine a light on Hispanic-American shoe designers and entrepreneurs making big waves in the fashion industry. You may recognize Flor de Maria’s polished pumps and glittering sandals on the feet of A-listers such as Kylie Jenner, Ariel Winter and Normani. While de Maria has always had a passion for heels, her journey to becoming a shoe designer wasn’t always so clear-cut. After migrating from Lima, Peru to the U.S. at the age of 14 with her family, de Maria attended the University of San Diego to study journalism and Spanish. She went on to have a seven-year career as a sports producer, anchor and reporter in San Francisco for major Spanish-language networks like Telemundo and Univison. “ When

Salehe Bembury Shares Alleged Police Profiling Incident on Instagram

Versace designer Salehe Bembury took to Instagram late yesterday to show an alleged police profiling incident in Beverly Hills, Calif. “BEVERLY HILLS WHILE BLACK. I’M OK, MY SPIRIT IS NOT,” Bembury captioned the video. In the clip shared on his Instagram grid, which shows the Versace VP of sneakers and men’s footwear with two police officers, he stated, “I’m in Beverly Hills right now and I’m getting f**king searched for shopping at the store I work for and just being Black.” Bembury also asked the officers, “You checked my ID, what’s going on? Do I have anything on my record?” and was then told he was free to go. On his Instagram Stories, Bembury further detailed the incident. Bembury said he was in Beverly Hills to congratulate Mike Amiri on the opening of his store and stopped into Versace after. Following the visit, the designer explained that the police officers pulled up to him as he was in his car and claimed he jaywalked, and after Bembury apologized he was asked to turn a

Rick Owens Spring 2021 Had Cotton Candy Thigh-High Platforms — and Matching Face Masks

Image
Rick Owens loves a platform. His signature boots, with a formidable square toe metal grill and oversized grommets, have walked his dystopian runways since the the fall ’19 season, and he’s made them part of every collection since then. They’ve also developed a fashion-cult following , and the designer often wears the towering footwear himself. For spring ’21, the usually dark Owens went a little lighter on the footwear — at least in color. The platforms were once again there in all their post-apocalyptic glory , but this time they came mostly in cotton candy or bubblegum pink hue, along with a bright candy-apple red (and a very-Rick slick black). The designer also took the boot up a few notches by extending them up over the thigh, with rectangular tabs reaching the hips of the models who wore them. Balmain’s Spring 2021 Front Row Had Jennifer Lopez, Anna Wintour and Kris Jenner Watching In A Totally New Way

Image
Any Balmain experience is a celebrity packed affair. However, with the international contingent of the Balmain army grounded, a little creative thinking was called for. Tonight, during Paris Fashion Week , the Balmain spring ’21 show played out physically, outside in the city’s Jardin des Plantes. While it may have been missing the physical celebrity front row, a stellar virtual line-up more than made up for it. CREDIT: WWD In the ultimate act of social distancing, Jennifer Lopez, Bryan Boy, Cara Delevingne , Alexa Chung, Usher, Cindy Crawford, Alexandra Ambrosia, Kris Jenner, Anna Wintour and others too numerous to recount, all attended virtually via a bank of screens replacing the customary front row seating. The American Vogue editor remained impassive as ever but others including Delevingne got right into the spirit of things, gamely cheering along and recording the action on their mobile

Here’s What Fashion Will Look Like in Five Years, According to These Shoe Designers

Everyone is waiting to see how the future unfolds following the coronavirus pandemic and the fashion industry is no different. Designers Andrea Wazen, Nicolò Beretta and Titi Adesa, along with Liberty London’s chief marketing officer Madeleine Macey, came together today in FN’s virtual roundtable to discuss big-picture questions, including what will fashion look like in five years? “We spend so much time predicting the future already,” Beretta told FN Style Director Shannon Adducci, who hosted the conversation. “It depends on what the pandemic turns out to be. We have so many questions, [but] there’s huge pressure on e-commerce and [that will continue]. Second, there will be a need for comfort, our lifestyle is changing.” Beretta himself is focused on direct-to-consumer for his brand Giannico, which he launched in 2013 at the age of 17. Just last week, he showed his new collection at Milan Fashion Week, which he said he’s happy with “considering the situation.” He added, “We do fash
