Kendall and Kylie Jenner Finally Revealed Their Makeup Collab, and It's Gonna Be Good

Image
Kendall Jenner is the last of her famous siblings to do a collaboration with her youngest sister, Kylie Jenner, for Kylie Cosmetics. After Kendall teased the collection on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in January, fans finally got a first look at the range of products over the weekend. Kendall explained during her Ellen interview that she hadn't been able to release anything in collaboration with Kylie over the last few years because she was in contract with a competing beauty company for a while, but assuming that contract is officially up now, the Kendall x Kylie Collection is set to drop on June 26. Kylie showed off all of the products in photos and videos shared to her Instagram Story over the weekend. According to those posts and some product imagery shared on the official Kylie Cosmetics Instagram account, the Kendall x Kylie Collection will feature an eyeshadow palette, a berry-colored lip gloss, a lip blush kit, a highlighter, a bronzer, and a blush stick, as well as

Yes, You Should Be Wearing (and Reapplying) Sunscreen While Self-Isolating Indoors

Image
For a lot of people, the last thing they're thinking about right now is whether or not they should be reapplying sunscreen after their 1 p.m. Zoom work call. But there are a lot of reasons why you shouldn't let this essential skin-care step fall by the wayside, even if you're spending most of your time indoors. "Daily sunscreen use can help guard against skin cancer and premature skin aging", said Dr Anjali Mahto , a London-based consultant dermatologist. That means come rain, wind, or shine, protection is key - yes, even when it's cloudy outside. To get to the bottom of why exactly wearing sunscreen is still as important as ever right now, we spoke to some of the top dermatologists and skin-care experts. Should You Be Wearing Sunscreen Indoors? We're sorry to say it, but just because you're indoors for the majority of your day, doesn't mean you should be skipping the SPF step. While "UVB [rays] do not penetrate through windows, UVA does&

5 Black-Owned Beauty Subscription Boxes You Need to Know About

Image
It's safe to say that our hearts have been incredibly heavy over the past few weeks. From the government's questionable decisions relating to lockdown to the tragic death of George Floyd at the hands of white police offers, we are living in unprecedented times. The latter has undeniably forced the entire world to openly discuss race, systematic oppression, and how the Black community can be uplifted, not just for a moment but a lifetime. The beauty industry has historically ignored the needs of women of color for years. Most beauty products and services were not created with Black women in mind, despite our high spending potential. It comes as no surprise that so many women of color have taken matters into their own hands by starting their own companies . It is important to celebrate and support Black beauty brands that make products specifically for women of color. Beauty subscription boxes are one of the most effective ways to determine whether a certain product is for yo

Treating Black Skin Shouldn't Be an Afterthought For Aestheticians - Here's Why

Image
Visiting a salon and getting a facial is supposed to be a relaxing, enjoyable experience; you're not supposed to feel anxious, or nervous, or uncomfortable. However, that's the reality for many BIPOC visiting an aesthetician. Similarly to how the hair industry is lacking in education and knowledge of Black hair, there's a shortage of education being offered on treating Black skin . "I feel like taking care of someone's skin is more personal than hair and makeup because it's kind of like, you get to pull back the veil of the perfect makeup look to help them with the skin conditions that they're dealing with," Lakeisha Dale , aesthetician and founder of MelaSkin Studio , told POPSUGAR. "That's a really big privilege when it comes to being an aesthetician. And being that it is such a privilege, I feel like we also need to talk about how Black and people of color don't get represented as much as their white counterparts, whether it be as a

11 Indie Beauty Brand Founders on the Other Indie Brands They Personally Love

Image
It may be hard to imagine now, but even the most popular and influential beauty brands started off, in some capacity, small. From Etsy shops to handmade, small-batch recipes mixed in apartment kitchens to big ideas born at happy hour, you'd be hard-pressed to talk to a brand founder that doesn't have a good story to tell. Luckily, thanks to social media and the power of the ever-growing beauty industry, it's not uncommon for indie brands to become cult favorites. In beauty land, it's difficult to define exactly what puts a brand in the "indie" category, but in general, it runs the gamut from small to new to incredibly innovative. Some indie brands are already sitting on shelves at big beauty retailers while others are just beginning to find their footing. The term is more "umbrella" than "one size fits all." With that in mind - and while small business owners continue to deal with the impacts of the coronavirus outbreak - we wanted to

Shani Darden's Texture Reform Is the Game-Changing Product My Sensitive Skin Needs

Image
I am what you might call a reformed skin-care maximalist. When I first understood the revolutionary concept that I wasn't just resigned to having acne forever - I could actually treat some of my skin concerns - I began to believe that more is more. I piled on the serums and treatments, often with no real idea about proper layering or what my skin actually needed. My aesthetician wisely told me to cut down on products, and my routine is now a very manageable 4-5 steps. I've been thinking about trying retinol for a little while, so when we were first designated to stay at home , there was no better time. I started using the Shani Darden Skin Care Texture Reform ($88) and now, there's no going back. My skin is normal/combination, which means it gets dryer in the winter and oilier in the summer, but nothing crazy. My skin is also sensitive, and I'm prone to clogged pores, which isn't fun. I settled on the Texture Reform because it seemed like the perfect retinol for

Saweetie Dazzles in Every Way in a New Photo Shoot For Paper - We Can't Look Away

Image
Saweetie dropped her smash single , "My Type" and put herself on the map just a year ago. Yet, the rapper is already hugely successful, with a dedicated fan base and notable partnerships under her belt. However, Saweetie says she actually didn't feel like she "reached stardom until yesterday," in a new interview with Paper . Well, we'd beg to differ, especially considering she looks like a mega-star in an accompanying photo shoot with the magazine. The rapper stuns in a series of versatile shots, with flawless skin, glossy lips, and a lot of sparkly jewelry. From her dewy skin and piercing highlight to the fact that she can work pretty much any hair style, it's impossible to pinpoint a favorite look. But our personal favorite just might be Saweetie's slinky dress paired with matching copper-colored eyeshadow. Ahead, check out all of the stunning photos from the shoot. Not Sure Why You're Breaking Out? Face Mapping Can Help Determine the Cause

Image
What if we told you that new pimple that just popped up out of nowhere isn't as random as you thought? According to face mapping, an ancient Chinese technique, breakouts can correlate with a specific organ or something internal in the body (like hormones) or, can be triggered by something as simple as your hair-care routine. To decode your breakouts and determine the initial cause of the issue , you first need to look at the specific area of the face where the new pimple popped up. Is it on your cheek? On your forehead? Or do you only get acne on your chin? These types of breakouts all mean different things. "Face mapping plays off the idea that energy flows along pathways between organs, and different zones of the face will correlate to specific organs," board-certified dermatologist Jessie Cheung , MD, of Cheung Aesthetics and Wellness in Chicago told POPSUGAR. "Pimples, redness, or dryness on the face are thus attributed to internal organ imbalances." Ah

CVS and Walgreens Will No Longer Lock Up Black Beauty Products Behind Cases

Image
Up until now, many drugstores and retailers stored a large majority of their multicultural beauty products behind locked cases, but thanks to the discriminatory policy being brought to light online, that's changing at the chains CVS and Walgreens. The sudden but long-overdue news comes not long after Walmart announced its policy change on June 10. Prior to that, many beauty and personal-care items geared toward people of color were locked behind plastic cases and required employee assistance to access them, while products that were not were left on open shelves. This decision is just one of the ways many brands and retailers are taking action to fight systemic racism and inequality in the beauty industry. Source: https://ift.tt/37DWeoz

You Might Be Shocked to Learn That Many Natural Hair Brands Aren't Black Owned

Image
Image Source: Getty / Artinun Prekmoung / EyeEm In light of the current climate, there's been a huge push for consumers to boost their support of Black-owned brands . Tons of graphics have flooded social media in recent weeks listing out dozens of Black businesses - specifically beauty and fashion brands - for users to support, but with that, many people have discovered that some products that are marketed toward Black people aren't actually Black owned. This is especially true with natural hair-care brands. On June 7, an Instagram account by the name of BeautyBossLab shared a list of several businesses you would think are Black owned but aren't next to a list of those that are. The list of non-Black-owned companies include names like Cantu, African Pride, and Dark & Lovely (all of which specialize in products for women with textured hair), while brands like Mielle Organics, Alikay Naturals, and Naturalicious sit in the opposite category. Needless to say, once the

Yes, You Should Still Be Wearing SPF Under Your Protective Face Mask - Here's Why

Image
In the few months since COVID-19 hit the US, we've found ourselves adjusting to a handful of new routines, one of which is the recommendation that everyone wear protective face masks while out in public to stop the spread of the virus. The logistics of what to do and what not to do while wearing one, though, might be confusing. For example, if you're wondering whether applying sunscreen is a necessary skin-care step to take when you're covering half of your face up, you're not alone. The answer to that question, put simply: yes, you should. "I always recommend wearing full coverage SPF and to reapply often, even when wearing a protective face mask," board certified dermatologist Shari Sperling , DO, told POPSUGAR. "Although these masks cover a portion of the face, you should still wear SPF to ensure protection from harmful UV rays." In some way, this is similar to the question of whether or not you should still be wearing SPF indoors with less e
