I Started Using This Cleanser Back in College For My Hormonal Acne, and I Still Swear By It

Image
I was fortunate not to experience too many breakouts during my early teenage years, but in college my skin started to act up. Then, after graduation I experienced horrible hormonal breakouts for about a year before I got it under control with the help of a dermatologist and a new skin-care routine . Fast forward to now and I still experience monthly breakouts on my chin and jawline ( this past week was particularly bad ) but I'd like to think that I have a handle on my acne - and I credit a lot of that to one cleanser. As a beauty editor, I try a lot of different products on a weekly basis; it's a key part of my job and I love to do it. Still, there's one product in my skin-care routine that I refuse to change and I've been using it since college. I've definitely tried - sometimes a fancy new cleanser comes across my desk and I decide to take a gamble on it after hearing so many other editors rave about it, only to have my face erupt into a mess of breakouts a

Curious About Vegan Leather? Here's What You Need to Know

Image
Vegan leather (also called faux leather) has, admittedly, not always had the best of reputations among fashion enthusiasts. But as the appetite for more sustainable practices continues to grow , more and more brands and designers have once again started working with the material. Perhaps once regarded as glorified plastic - and a cheap way to recreate some of our favorite '90s looks - faux leather has been transformed over the past few years. Now one of the most talked about fabrics within the sustainability sphere, vegan leather is used by some of the most reputable sustainable brands and boutiques out there, and it's easy to see why. A far cry from what it used to be, faux leather looks and feels nearly identical to the real thing , so it's become pretty difficult to tell the difference between the two materials. And with the leather look being one of the biggest trends of 2020 , the industry's newfound love for the vegan option couldn't have come at a better

Here's What It Really Means When a Fashion Retailer Takes the 15 Percent Pledge

Image
Sephora is the first of four major retailers that were asked to join the 15 Percent Pledge upon its realization by Aurora James on May 29, 2020. James, who is the creative director and founder of Brother Vellies , posted about the need for businesses to invest in the future of Black communities on her feed the day after having a discussion with a friend about how Black-owned businesses are struggling in the midst of the coronavirus crisis. Since then, she's created a website that clearly states the three steps of the process a company must implement when taking the pledge and also includes a petition that you can sign to stand with and support the pledge. She also enlisted artist Mona Chalabi to create the above graphic - which you might've seen floating around social media - that outlines how Black-owned businesses have seen major struggle since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, far more than any other racial group, and encourages big businesses to look around them and

This Retinol-Infused Eye Mask Makes Me Look Like I’ve Had 10 Hours of Sleep

Image
I'm a skin-care lover , and ever since I've been staying at home, I've put lots of time and attention into perfecting my everyday routine. I'm using more masks , trying out new active serums, and keeping my skin consistently moisturized. I've seen these KNC Beauty All Natural Retinol Infused Eye Masks ($25 for 5) on Instagram for awhile now and decided to try them out a couple of weeks ago. Well, dear reader, these are everything you could possibly want in a beauty product. First of all, I'm a sucker for cute packaging, and these are as good as it gets. They're in the shape of shooting stars, and they're shimmery gold. It doesn't get much better than that. Pop them on for 10 minutes, and when they come off, your undereyes are glowy and bright. This is exactly the kind of product I would rely on before a night out, but since all my nights are in at the moment, I'll be using them for a self-care Sunday moment. If you want skin care that's as
