Avril Lavigne Relives Her Sk8er Girl Days in a 2000s-Chic Necktie, Bermuda Shorts & Skate Shoes
Avril Lavigne really had all of transporting back to the early 2000s this week.
The hit musician posted her first-ever TikTok last night with a little help from legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk. The duo created a surprise transition to the tune of Lavigne’s unforgettable track from the early aughts, “Sk8er Boi.”
For the video, Lavigne herself brought back the trends of decades past as she modeled a black muscle tee and Bermuda shorts accented by a striped necktie. A few decades back, layering a tie over your outfit became the new norm perpetuated largely by that of Lavigne’s own style both on and off the red carpet. Though styling move was less common than early aughts favorites like low-rise jeans and lace camisole tanks, it was still a frequent trend amongst edgier celebrity style stars.
In addition to the rad TikTok video that has now accumulated over 12 million views, Hawk himself shared a video teaching the singer how to do a few tricks. Prepping for a kickflip or two, Lavigne laced up a pair of all-black skate shoes for the day that came with a textured outsole for added grip.

From her rise to fame to her modern-day acclaim, the “Complicated” singer earned a reputation for her edgy style and punk-inspired tastes. Back in the day, you could find Lavigne with combinations like pink-streaked hair, plaid skirts and ripped fishnet tights during her performances and her time off-duty as well — and today, that daring outfit standard still applies.
As for shoes, Lavigne also founded her own footwear line Abbey Dawn in 2012 which still produces apparel and designs to this day.
