Ariana Grande Pulls Off This Disputed Styling Move With Help from Her ‘Ugly’ Sandals

Ariana Grande has had a major week: she got engaged, her Netflix documentary released and now, she’s pulling off one of footwear’s most disputed styling moves.

The “Positions” singer, who announced her engagement to real estate agent Dalton Gomez on Sunday, took to Instagram once more this afternoon to give fans a glimpse into her everyday style. For the outfit of the day, Grande opted for a relaxed white crop top and dark wash jeans covered with a soft brown trench coat.

Her footwear, though, is where the “excuse me, i love you” star really incorporated her bold taste.

The 27-year-old musician slipped her feet into a pair of classic white socks topped with chunky sandals courtesy of Balenciaga. The double-strap sandal features intertwined leather and rubber uppers secured with adjustable Velcro straps.

Footwear fans go back and forth on their thoughts on socks and sandals. While the combination is considered disharmonizing by some, others prefer the layering as it allows you to wear your favorite open-toe designs year-round. Brands like Fendi, Anna Sui, Simone Rocha and more included socks and sandals together in their recent runway shows — and you can even find Justin Bieber, Halle Berry, Kendall Jenner and Kanye West rocking their own takes on the disputed footwear combo.

Grande’s part in particular incorporated another hit trend for 2020: “ugly” sandals. Like clogs and ballet flats, “ugly” sandals, experienced a revitalization amongst growing celebrity style trends and footwear favorites this year; the new appreciation for comfortable sandal styles comes with an increased desire for ease of wear and stability in the fashion world amidst the current environment. You can shop the “Needy” singer’s special designer pair for $725 at Net-a-Porter.

As for Grande herself, the Grammy Award-winning artist has never been one to shy away from a bold footwear moment. In fact, the 5-foot-3-inch singer more often than not opts for taller heels and platform lifts in everything from her on-stage looks to her off-duty style. Her previous heightened styles have come from Club Exx, Demonia, Giuseppe Zanotti, Unravel and more top labels.

When she isn’t in boots or heels, the hit musician keeps things casual in Nike Air Force 1 kicks, Crocs clogs and Naked Wolfe chunky sneakers amongst other styles. Her career in fashion extends beyond just a stylish closet, though. She was named the face of Givenchy’s fall ’19 campaign and previously partnered with Reebok to help debut a brand new silhouette for fall ’18.
